DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (AP) - The Denham Springs City Council will hold a public hearing Oct. 11 on a pair of ordinances designed to help residents secure temporary housing and replace mobile homes destroyed by the flooding.

One ordinance would grant a citywide hardship waiver to allow residents to bypass an existing prohibition on living in travel trailers. The other ordinance would create an exception to rules that prevent replacing mobile homes on private property.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/2cTWeVw) the council already agreed, by consensus but without a vote, to overlook the travel trailer prohibition during the flood recovery process.

City Attorney Stephanie Hulett says the citywide hardship waiver would be limited to six months, with the council having discretion to extend it further.
