DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit police precinct and surrounding streets have been reopened after bomb squad members disposed of a grenade delivered by a resident trying to be helpful.

Officer Jennifer Moreno says the resident had no “ill intent” Thursday when the man brought the grenade into the 5th precinct station on the city’s east side. Officers directed the person to go back outside, set down the device and walk away.

The bomb squad removed the grenade and disposed of the device.

Police say the man found the grenade when he was cleaning out a residence.
