NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Police Department says a man is in stable condition after he was slashed on the face and chest with a box cutter in the subway.

Police say the violence erupted after the men argued on a northbound “D” train at around 10:15 a.m. Thursday. It spilled onto the platform of the Bryant Park station near 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue.

Assistant Transit Chief Vincent Coogan tells WINS that the bleeding victim followed the stranger up to the street but he got away.
