JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A University of North Florida employee is dead following an apparent home invasion.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Michael Paul tells the Florida Times-Union (https://bit.ly/2cTIN81 ) that police believe Jonathan Wesley Brenton answered the door at his home around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Following a struggle of some kind, Brenton was shot.

Police officers answering a 911 call found Brenton dead at the scene. His wife and child were at the home but weren’t injured.

Paul says investigators are trying to determine whether Brenton knew the suspect. He says they want to know if the family was having problems with anyone or “if it was just a normal morning and there was a knock at the door and things went wrong.”

Brenton was a senior IT network engineer at the university’s Southside campus.
