WINOOSKI, Vt. (AP) - The death certificate for Jesse Beshaw, who was killed by a sheriff’s deputy in Winooski last week, says the 29-year-old died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2d33crF ) Chief Medical Examiner Steven Shapiro classified Beshaw’s Sept. 16 death as a homicide. The distinction means he was killed by another person and does not suggest legal culpability.

Prosecutors and law enforcement officials are investigating whether the fatal shooting was justified.

Vermont State Police say Franklin County Deputy Sheriff Nicolas Palmier shot Beshaw six times and grazed him with a seventh shot after the unarmed suspect advanced on him.

Shapiro’s report states that Beshaw died within seconds to minutes.

The shooting was captured by police body cameras. Investigators have yet to release the footage.
