BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) - A woman accused of being behind the wheel of a car that hit and killed a 26-year-old woman on Cape Cod has pleaded not guilty.

The Cape Cod Times reports (https://bit.ly/2crlfd2 ) 31-year-old Sarah Allard entered the plea during her arraignment Wednesday to charges including motor vehicle homicide in the death of Amber Scanlan.

Authorities say Scanlan was hit while walking with her boyfriend in Hyannis on Tuesday night. Police say witnesses told them the vehicle didn’t brake and took off after the crash.

Investigators say a car part helped lead police to Allard’s home, where police found her car with a smashed windshield and a missing fog light. Police say she told them she had trouble seeing while driving after losing her glasses and thought she hit an animal.
