STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) - A Bancroft man convicted of killing his estranged wife has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Fifty-nine-year-old Larry Sanchez was convicted of fatally shooting 47-year-old Lisa Sanchez in June 2015. He then began a standoff with police that lasted nearly five hours and ended when tactical officers used tear gas and pepper spray to force him from his house.

Portage County Judge Thomas Flugaur handed down the sentence Thursday. A criminal complaint says Lisa Sanchez had recently moved out because of her husband’s alcohol abuse and that she was retrieving some belongings when she was shot.

The complaint says Sanchez’s blood alcohol was 0.24 shortly after his arrest, three times the legal limit for driving.
