NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - The Natchez-Adams School District Board of Trustees has voted to promote the district’s interim superintendent to superintendent.

The Natchez Democrat (https://bit.ly/2cq8Mlj ) reports that the board voted Tuesday in a 4-1 decision to approve Fred Butcher’s contract as superintendent of the schools through the 2017-18 school year.

Butcher agreed to the new contract and will make $10,500 per month starting in October. He previously made $9,800 monthly as interim superintendent.

Trustee Phillip West says the majority of the board thinks Butcher has been doing a good job and feels he is moving the district in the right direction.

Butcher says he has a number of projects lined up including improving test scores, moving Natchez Early College Academy to the Alcorn State University Natchez Campus and becoming fully staffed with certified teachers.
