CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island judge has ordered a 55-year-old Cranston man held without bail on charges that he allegedly assaulted and harassed a woman in a wheelchair on two separate occasions.

Emile Perrault pleaded not guilty Thursday in Kent County District Court to charges of assault upon a handicapped or impaired person, disorderly conduct, intimidation of a witness and resisting arrest.

Cranston police say the disorderly conduct and witness intimidation charges stem from an incident Wednesday where Perrault berated the 48-year-old victim outside a bus stop in the city.

Perrault was out on bail following an altercation with the same woman the day before in which police say he slapped her across the face.

Police say Perrault told officers he confronted the woman on Wednesday because she lied about Tuesday’s assault.
