JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A 22-year-old Jackson man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2013 shooting death of a 51-year-old-man during burglary.

Attorney General Jim Hood said in a news release Donte Shepard was sentenced Thursday by Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Jeff Weill Sr. for one count of capital murder.

Shepard was convicted Wednesday by a Hinds County jury after a three-day trial. The jury deliberated for an hour before returning the guilty verdict.

Hood said Shepard was convicted and sentenced for the November 2013 murder of Tony Brown, also of Jackson.

He said Brown was shot nine times when he interrupted a burglary in progress at his home.
