MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man was charged with driving under the influence after authorities say he crashed his van into a gas pump.

Florida Today (https://goo.gl/SXn7Zz ) reports that 34-year-old John H. Quarterman III was arrested Wednesday and charged with DUI with 2 priors, DUI property damage and DUI with injury.

Melbourne police say officers responded to the Race Trac gas station Wednesday afternoon and found the crashed van with Quarterman and a passenger passed out inside. A small amount of gas had spilled on the ground and prompted gas station workers to shut down the pumps. No fire was reported.

Officers determined Quarterman was impaired by an “unknown substance.” He and his passenger were taken to a nearby hospital, and then Quarterman was taken to jail. Records didn’t list an attorney.
