SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has cleared three Unified police officers of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a man during a shootout that also resulted in the death of a police dog.

District Attorney Sim Gill said Thursday the officers were justified in their use of force against 36-year-old David Shane Anderson, of West Jordan, in April.

Unified police had gone to a suburban Salt Lake City home to serve a search warrant on Anderson, who was accused of driving into a police vehicle days earlier.

Officers entered the home with K-9 Aldo and found Anderson in a bedroom.

Anderson fired two shots, striking the dog, and officers returned fire.

Anderson was shot in the head and died from his injuries days later.

Aldo died at the scene.
