BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Boulder County authorities have arrested a teen suspected of attacking and seriously injuring a 71-year-old woman who picked him up while he was hitchhiking.

The Daily Camera reports (https://bit.ly/2cLkPg0 ) the 16-year-old was taken into custody Thursday and remains held on $1 million bond. He’s being investigated for attempted murder and assault on an at-risk adult.

Police had been looking for the teen since Monday night, when they say he attacked Katie Kulpa at her home.

The woman had picked up the teen and his two friends, who were hitchhiking near Ward, and offered them a place to stay for the night.

The two friends reported the assault to a neighbor.

Kulpa’s son says the woman, who suffered a massive head injury, bone fractures and lacerations, remained hospitalized Thursday but is recovering.
