PANAMA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in southwestern New York are investigating a crash that killed the driver of a horse-drawn Amish buggy and injured four of his passengers.

Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace says an investigation found that Peggy Miles of Panama fell asleep while driving, and her car smashed into the rear of the buggy and demolished it.

The accident happened late Thursday afternoon in the Town of Panama just north of the Pennsylvania border.

Authorities say the driver of the buggy, Henry Koffman Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. A female adult and child in the buggy sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to a Pennsylvania hospital. The other two occupants of the buggy were transported by ambulance to the hospital.

No charges have been filed.
