MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Public Service is calling for an investigation into the failure of equipment that led to a disruption of 911 calls on Jan. 5.

The department has petitioned the Vermont Public Service Board to launch an investigation.

The department says part of FairPoint’s network equipment failed on Jan. 5, leading to a disruption of calls to the E-911 network for about 40 minutes.

FairPoint says it has been working with the department and the Vermont E-911 board since the equipment failure.

It says it verified that no 911 calls into the system were lost and has shared with the state the steps it has taken to fix the problem.
