TEMPLE, Texas (AP) - A carjacking suspect has been shot dead after a 30-mile police chase through Central Texas ended in what officers said was an armed confrontation.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the shooting happened about 12:45 p.m. Saturday when the suspect vehicle was stopped at a Temple intersection and a male suspect emerged and pointed a shotgun at officers. No officers were injured.

DPS Sgt. David Roberts says the episode began about 11:50 a.m. when police in Cameron, about 30 miles southeast of Temple, spotted a car that had been reportedly taken at gunpoint.

Cameron police, assisted by the DPS, pursued the car as it headed toward Temple. Roberts says the man reportedly called 911 and threatened any officer who had tried to stop him.

No identities have been released.
