BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Adams County officials say a deputy involved in the fatal shooting of a rancher is no longer working for the sheriff’s department.

The Idaho Statesman (https://bit.ly/2bWps4f ) reports that Adams County Clerk Sherry Ward confirmed that Brian Wood no longer worked for the county as of Aug. 31, but declined to say if he resigned or was terminated.

Wood did not immediately respond to a comment request.

Jack Yantis was killed after one of his bulls was hit by a car and deputies shot the animal. Yantis arrived with a rifle just as deputies decided to put down the animal. Authorities have said there was an altercation, and Yantis and two deputies all fired their weapons.

Wood and Deputy Cody Roland have been named in a wrongful death tort claim filed by Yantis’ family.

Roland resigned from the sheriff’s office on Nov. 30.
