MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Some Minot residents want to raise chickens in city limits.

KFYR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2bKaYn4 ) that a proposal ordinance would allow people to own up to six chickens on their property. Roosters would not be allowed.

The ordinance says owners would have to create a suitable coop for the chickens that protects them from the elements and from predators.

Some residents are worried about animal waste and smell.

Minot City Council’s Public Works and Safety Committee did not endorse the proposal. But backers say they will take the issue to the full council next month.
