MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - The Preston County Public Service District has agreed to a $73,200 civil penalty for pollution discharge violations at its treatment plants.

The Dominion Post (https://bit.ly/2c6kN1Y ) reports the state Department of Environmental Protection released a consent order last week in the case.

The DEP noted the violations during inspections in 2014 and 2015. An inspection of the Bruceton Mills sewage plant found allowable discharges were exceeded from April 2013 through September 2014. The plant also failed to meet the terms of a 2011-2012 compliance plan.

A later inspection showed continued violations and a failure to resolve the previous deficiencies. The pollution discharge was forming sludge banks in a local stream.
