SALINA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of the teenager who was fatally shot while riding in a car traveling on a suburban Syracuse highway.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says Wednesday that 18-year-old Dion Givens of Syracuse was traveling in a car heading south on Interstate 81 in the town of Salina early Saturday morning when he was shot in the chest by someone firing from another vehicle. Givens was taken to a Syracuse hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Deputies say while they were investigating the shooting, a man suffering from a gunshot wound showed up at the emergency room of another Syracuse hospital. He was transferred to Upstate University Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition.

Police are investigating whether the two shootings are connected.
