NEW YORK (AP) - A 22-year-old Queens man has been sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for plowing his car into a crowd and killing a man in 2014.

Kevin Weekes was sentenced on Thursday after a judge found him guilty of second-degree murder, assault and reckless endangerment. He was acquitted of several other charges, including assault and leaving the scene.

Authorities say Weekes went uninvited to a baby shower and an argument there escalated into a fight. Prosecutors say Weekes returned in his car and hit 20-year-old Kevin Lewis, pinning him under the car as Weekes kept driving to a nearby intersection.

Prosecutors say Weekes used his vehicle as a weapon and it was just as deadly as a gun.
