BERLIN (AP) - Energy drinks brand Red Bull says Austrian stunt pilot Hannes Arch, a member of the company’s extreme sports team, has died in a helicopter crash in the Alps.

The 48-year-old was flying back from a mountain hut in the Grossglockner area of Carinthia, in eastern Austria, when his helicopter struck a cliff late Thursday. A passenger was seriously injured.

Red Bull said Arch had been a member of its extreme sports team for over 25 years. In a statement Friday, the company said that in his younger days Arch “was ranked as one of the world’s leading mountaineers and climbers, and was one of the first aerobatic paragliders.”
