UNION CITY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have identified a driver who was killed after crashing into a garbage truck in northern New Jersey.

Police say they saw a car traveling at a high rate of speed before it smashed into the garbage truck in Union City early Thursday.

The car then slid into a parked van and burst into flames. A speaker was knocked from the car and struck the plate glass window of a furniture store.

Officials say Winston Reyes of Jersey City was declared dead at the scene.

Officials say four workers in the garbage truck were hospitalized to receive treatment for minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
