LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - The body of a Longmont man that was found near the top of McClure Pass in Pitkin County has been identified as that of a well-liked teacher at Longs Peak Middle School.

The Daily Times-Call reports (https://bit.ly/2cqBhmE ) that the body of 49-year-old Matthew Barz was found Monday near the top of the pass. Authorities say he was camping when he accidentally fell about 30 feet off of his cliff-side site.

Friends say one of the U.S. history teacher’s passions was spending time in the mountains.

Barz taught at Longs Peak for more than 20 years. The news of his death has inspired tributes at the school, where he taught social studies, language arts, literacy and health classes during his tenure and coached boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling and track.
