LEBANON, N.H. (AP) - Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center plans to lay off up to 460 workers by year’s end as part of an effort to reduce the workforce by 3 to 5 percent.

CEO James Weinstein laid out the plan Friday in an email that said details of the layoffs would be spelled out by the middle of October.

The Valley News (https://bit.ly/2chmIOu ) quoted Weinstein as saying that to achieve financial stability the hospital must “identify $100 million in improvements, and we need to do this rapidly.” The hospital finished the fiscal year that ended June 30 with a $12 million deficit.

The hospital plans to lay off between 270 and 460 employees and will review its clinical programs to try to achieve greater efficiencies.
