DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Decatur’s 1971 state championship football team is celebrating the 45th anniversary of one of the Red Raiders’ most memorable seasons.

The Decatur Daily reports (https://bit.ly/2cvXz51) that former players and coaches will be honored before Friday night’s Decatur game vs. Columbia at Ogle Stadium. A banquet is planned for Saturday night at Decatur Country Club.

The Decatur newspaper reports that the late Earl Webb was head coach of the 1971 team. Two of his assistant coaches, Paul Glover and Wally Burnham, are expected to take part in this weekend’s celebration.

Decatur was 12-1 that season and defeated Butler 8-0 in the 4A state championship game at Huntsville’s Milton Frank Stadium. Its only loss was to Cullman, 17-8.
