RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. (AP) - Flooding in southwestern Wisconsin has put a damper on a county fair.

The first day of the Richland County Fair was canceled Thursday and organizers say that hasn’t happened in the event’s 150-year history. The parking lot and a majority of the barns were flooded by this week’s heavy rain.

WISC-TV (https://bit.ly/2c4GjqZ ) says fair employees and volunteers went to work when the water started to recede late Thursday and cleaned the barns to prep for the arrival of livestock. Fair coordinator Carla Doudna says the event will get underway Friday.

The four-day fair is a fundraiser for service clubs in the area, including the Kiwanis Club, which could lose thousands of dollars as a result.
