LUCEDALE, Miss. (AP) - A corrections officer with the George County Regional Jail has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an inmate at the facility.

Sheriff Keith Havard said Friday that 58-year-old Warren Avery was immediately fired.

The sheriff’s office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are conducting an investigation into the allegations.

Avery faces two counts of sex with an inmate by a corrections officer. Bond information was not immediately available.

Havard says Averny had worked at the prison since 2009.
