SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A 19-year-old Summerville man will spend life behind bars for a fatal shooting last year at a gas station.

News agencies report Thomas Robert Shewtzuk was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after a jury convicted him of murder in the death of 23-year-old Travis Aaron Gordon of Goose Creek.

Prosecutors say Shewtzuk shot Gordon to death after kidnapping Gordon and forcing him to go to the Summerville gas station in June 2015.

Shewtzuk’s defense attorney says Shewtzuk never intended to kill Gordon and that he just wanted to rob him.

Investigators have said the motive may have been a dispute over a woman whom the suspect and victim had both dated.

Another suspect, 23-year-old Joshua Bryan Jordan, also faces charges in Gordon’s death. His trial date has not yet been set.
