BANNING, Calif. (AP) - A Palm Springs man has been sentenced to 32 years to life in prison for leading a Cathedral City police officer on a car chase that ended with the officer’s death in a crash.

The Riverside County district attorney’s office says Durjan Germain Gray was sentenced Friday in Banning.

Gray was convicted this summer of the second-degree murder of Officer Jermaine Gibson and other charges including driving under the influence.

Gibson tried to pull over a Ford Mustang on the night of March 18, 2011, but it did not stop. The pursuit headed into Palm Springs, where Gibson’s patrol car crashed into a palm tree, killing him. Gray’s car crashed 200 yards farther on.
