SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Salt Lake City police say an officer who was injured while chasing a car theft suspect fell from an overpass during a struggle.

The department originally said the officer jumped from the overpass Wednesday night while pursuing the suspect.

The suspect’s fall was broken when he landed in a small grove of trees, but the officer missed the foliage and landed 25 feet below the road. He had been on the job less than a month.

The officer remained in serious but stable condition Thursday.

Police caught up with the 20-year-old suspect, who was booked for investigation of fleeing police and resisting arrest. He also had two felony warrants.
