MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says it’s investigating a shooting in Rutherford County involving a law enforcement officer.

TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland said in a news release the shooting Wednesday afternoon involved a deputy from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Niland said the deputy responded to a home to speak with someone in response to an earlier incident. She said a physical altercation took place in the driveway, and the deputy fired his gun, striking 54-year-old Jeffrey Underhill.

She said Underhill was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment. No condition report was immediately available.

The deputy, whose name wasn’t released, suffered minor injuries.
