SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) - California law enforcement officials say a man is in critical condition after being shot in the head while he was driving on a freeway east of San Francisco.

California Highway Patrol tells KTVU-TV (https://bit.ly/2wX4cWe ) that the man was driving with three passengers on Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro when he was shot in the head early Monday. An officer says witnesses saw multiple shots coming from a white vehicle with multiple occupants that got away after the shooting.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The southbound lanes were closed following the incident. California Highway Patrol says they will be reopen later Monday.
