NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans police say a 27-year-old man who was seen carrying a stolen AK-47 assault rifle is jailed on gun charges.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports that Kendrick Woolridge was seen early Saturday morning by officers patrolling an apartment complex in the Algiers neighborhood. He had been carrying the rifle as officers were walking and spotted him coming down a set of stairs.

Investigators learned the gun was reported stolen from Jefferson Parish.

Woolridge was processed into the Orleans Justice Center on Saturday for charges including firearm possession by a convicted felon. He was also booked with a parole violation.

Records show that Woolridge remained in jail Monday night in lieu of a $35,000 bond. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
