BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Officials in a Vermont city will soon learn if they’ve found the source of a 14,000-gallon-a-day leak at their municipal pool.

With attendance dropping rapidly because of a forecast of poor weather, Barre officials are closing the pool Thursday. The Times Argus reports (https://bit.ly/2wf5f6W ) this will allow them to test for the source of the leak that they estimate has been draining the pool at such a quick rate.

Public Works Director Bill Ahearn says it appears the leak is from a faulty recirculation pipe, as previous tests called attention to that particular pipe. Ahearn says officials will be excavating the pool to be certain that is the problem.

Barring the simplest of repairs, the leak likely won’t be repaired on Friday.
