PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island says they will no longer make weekend meal deliveries.

Executive Director Heather Amaral said Monday they did not have enough funding to meet increasing expenses with the program.

Meals on Wheels started the weekend delivery service last year. WPRI-TV reports close to half of their customers used the service.

The organization will end the weekend program Sept. 1.

Amaral says Meals on Wheels will continue to review its budget so they could possibly resume the weekend deliveries in the future.
