MSNBC co-host Joe Scarborough slammed the left-wing violence in Berkeley, California, over the weekend, saying there’s nothing “anti-fascist” about using force to shut down free speech.

Left-wing, antifa activists flooded the streets in Berkeley on Sunday after two right-leaning rallies were canceled over security concerns. Hundreds of black-clad anarchists targeted a small number of President Trump supporters in multiple fights broadcast by local media. At least 13 people were arrested for “various violations,” including assault with a deadly weapon and felony assault, police said.

On Monday’s broadcast of “Morning Joe,” Mr. Scarborough and other members on the panel slammed the anti-free speech “thuggery” taking over college campuses.

“This is an ongoing problem, ongoing in problem in Berkeley especially, where members of the far-left are using violence to shut down free speech,” he said in a clip flagged by the Washington Free Beacon. “They’re fascist in their behavior, aren’t they? There’s nothing anti-fascist about that.”

Mr. Scarborough said Berkeley has become known as a center for left-wing violence used to stamp out speech from right-leaning speakers, citing clashes over separate appearances by Ann Coulter and Milo Yiannopoulos, both of which had to be canceled this year.

“This is an innocent question: Who is running Berkeley, and why can’t they protect free speech?” Mr. Scarborough asked. “What’s your problem in Berkeley? Why can’t you protect free speech? If you need me to help you out, we can get some people that will actually protect the First Amendment.”

“This sort of thuggery going on your streets, in your college campuses, is an absolute disgrace,” he said.

Axios reporter Jonathan Swan called the activists “mentally-stunted snowflakes” who are going to have a hard time coping with life after college.

“Who wants to hire a child who is so offended by all of these things they’re going to encounter?” he asked. “When they turn up at work, they’re going to hear some Republican-leaning views.”

“They’ve been told they’re perfect all their life,” co-host Mika Brzezinski added.

Mr. Scarborough slammed the “bubble” that liberals have been living in and said it’s a part of the reason why the left has become “so disconnected with America.”

“The snowflake culture,” he said, “it will hurt the left if they continue to coddle them.”
