MARION, Iowa (AP) - The Marion Airport in eastern Iowa will see improvements, thanks to a state grant.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports that the Iowa Department of Transportation voted Tuesday to approve $425,000 of funding.

The money will go toward fixing and widening the runway from 26 feet to 60 feet, allowing bigger planes to use the airport.

Airport general manger Cole Norton says several businesses have said they would be interested in locating to the area when the changes happen.

Norton says the project will likely be completed by the end of 2019.
