RENO, Nev. (AP) - A man was sentenced to life in prison after authorities say he sexually assaulted a woman who was working at a Reno sandwich shop on Christmas Eve last year.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the sentence for 29-year-old Chad Anthony Phillips was handed down on Tuesday. He must serve at least 10 years in prison before he’s eligible for parole.

Washoe County District Attorney’s Office says the 34-year-old victim was alone in the north Reno shop when Phillips entered.

Authorities say Phillips told the victim he had a knife and forced her into sexual acts. The woman called police after he left the shop.

Reno police arrested Phillips shortly after the encounter.
