LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A maple syrup expert will lead a workshop and demonstration on maple tree tapping next week at the University of Louisville.

The event is free and starts at 1 p.m. Monday at the Cultural Center Multipurpose Room on the Belknap Campus. The tapping demonstration will take place afterward in the Garden Commons community garden.

Maple syrup expert David Barker is leading the event. He helped U of L tap maple trees on Belknap Campus last year for a biology class project.

Last year’s efforts produced about a half-gallon of syrup. Participants in Monday’s event will be able to taste last year’s syrup.
