CAMDEN, Maine (AP) - A competition that combines goofy costumes with a thrilling ride down a 400-foot frozen chute is drawing to a close.

Sunday marks the final day of competition for the National Toboggan Championships at the Camden Snow Bowl in Maine.

The event features teams of two, three or four people riding old-school wooden toboggans. They slide down the wooden, ice-covered chute, hitting speeds up to 40 mph, before spilling out onto the frozen surface of Hosmer Pond.

Last year’s event was truncated into a single day and moved because of warm weather caused patches of open water on Hosmer Pond.
