SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities say firefighters found a man’s body after extinguishing a blaze at a homeless encampment under a Santa Ana bridge.

Police Corporal Anthony Bertagna says the body was discovered early Sunday in a cave-like compartment underneath the bridge where the man lived. The makeshift quarters could not be seen from the street.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/2kkQ56w ) the body, burned beyond recognition, was retrieved by the coroner.

Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.
