PEQUANNOCK, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey police officer has pleaded guilty to drunken driving.

The Record reports (https://bit.ly/2kNUJ02 ) that Montvale police officer Herminio Amado pleaded guilty to drunken driving in court Monday. Pequannock Township police arrested Amado in June after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a car on the side of state Route 23.

Police say the five-year veteran officer failed field sobriety tests.

A judge sentenced Amado to seven months’ suspension of his driver’s license. However, sentencing has been put on hold pending an appeal. Amado’s lawyer argues the alcohol influence report should not be used as evidence because of the timing between the two breath tests.
