DEPTFORD, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey couple forced to put their wedding on hold while they both dealt with cancer have finally gotten hitched.

Kevin Sochanchak and Ashley Wood became husband and wife in Deptford on Saturday after winning a wedding giveaway contest at a local restaurant last December.

Vendors donated photos, flowers and even Wood’s wedding dress.

Wood was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011. She defied the odds with help from her new husband and was declared cancer-free last year.

Sochanchak continues to battle Stage 4 stomach and esophageal cancer despite being given only six months to live after his initial diagnosis in 2014.

While the couple’s struggle with cancer will continue, friends and family say they were able to put that aside for one night and celebrate their love.
