GONZALES, La. (AP) - A former East Ascension High School assistant athletic trainer and health teacher has pleaded guilty to prohibited sexual conduct with a 17-year-old girl as part of a deal that allowed him to avoid jail.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/2lRsD1z ) 34-year-old Louis Aguillard, of Prairieville, received a suspended six-month jail sentence Monday and six months’ probation, during which he can’t teach or coach. He also must pay a $1,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service.

Tyler Cavalier, spokesman for the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, said the victim - a student - didn’t want to testify at trial, which was to start Wednesday.

Aguillard had worked at the school since 2014, but quit before his arrest May 25.

Aguillard’s attorney, J. Rodney Messina, hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
