DENVER (AP) - Investigators say a man left pipe bombs in the safe in his downtown Denver hotel room and wrote the word “explosives” on the closet door mirror before traveling to Los Angeles, where he was arrested.

Adam Hayat was arrested Thursday at a hotel near Los Angeles International Airport after the explosives were found the previous day. The 35-year-old Denver man appeared in court Friday on a charge of possessing unregistered firearms and will be taken back to Colorado.

According to an affidavit, investigators in Denver found the pipe bombs in a closed ammunition case in the safe after police were called by hotel staff. They also found several metal pipes and empty rifle shell casings in the room.

It’s unclear if Hayat has an attorney who can comment about the allegations.
