BRUSLY, La. (AP) - Authorities are looking for an inmate who fled his work release job site Valentine’s Day.

Multiple media outlets report the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Mertis Wade walked off from doing dishes at Louisiana Bayou Bistro in Brusly on Tuesday.

Col. Richie Johnson says a sheriff’s deputy has been suspended for two weeks without pay. He said Wade was not properly accounted for and the sheriff’s office was not alerted until about six hours later. Johnson says it’s possible that more suspensions could occur as the investigation continues.

Records show Wade was sentenced in Orleans Parish in 2013 for simple robbery. He’s been on work release in West Baton Rouge Parish since November 2015.

Anyone with information on Wade’s whereabouts is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 225-344-7867.
