PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Pikeville officials are working on creating a new bikeway system to make the city’s roads safer.

Deputy City Manager Philip Elswick tells WYMT-TV (https://bit.ly/2lXZDZp ) that plans for the bike system are in the final stages. He expects construction to begin within the next few months, with cyclists being able to use the new lanes by mid- to late summer.

Elswick says members of the cycling community have played an important role in helping plan the project. He says he hopes the new system will encourage others in the community to get out and exercise.
