NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a Brooklyn man has been charged in the fatal stabbing of a woman who was slain inside her Manhattan apartment.

Police say the suspect stabbed 48-year-old Eloise Liz to death after breaking into her Harlem apartment around 4 a.m. Sunday. Investigators say the suspect injured his hand during the attack.

Police say they discovered a bloody trail leading from the scene of the crime to nearby Harlem Hospital. Investigators say they then found the suspect being treated for injuries to his hand.

The man was arrested and charged with murder and burglary.

Authorities say they retrieved a backpack with several objects including the knife used in the stabbing after reviewing surveillance tapes.

The suspect was held without bail on Sunday night. A court date is set for Friday in Manhattan.
