SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - Work begins Tuesday on a roadway construction project on a major commercial highway connecting State Routes 191 and 80 in Cochise County.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2jvmN8t) that the work on Davis Road represents the largest public works project planned by Cochise County in 2017.

Crews are scheduled to start construction on a short paved detour that will keep two-way traffic open during the six-month project.

This is the first of three alignment and drainage improvements on Davis Road.

Cochise County Highway and Floodplain Director Karen Riggs says when the entire project is completed commercial trucks will have an easier time navigating Davis Road during monsoon season.
